I do a lot of school shows. Every year, there is more and more competition. Sadly, too many performers will cut price, cut price and cut price again to get a booking. How do I command $500 plus when the imitators and Johnny-come-latelys are offering $100 shows?
The question is, how do you separate yourself from the pack? How can you stand out and get the shows and the price I need? (Oops, two questions.)
One magic word. If you are trying to book school and library shows, OR public speaking gigs, the magic word is "author."
If you are an author, you instantly position yourself as an expert. If you are doing motivational speeches, write a book on motivation. If you are doing reading shows, write a children's book.
There are several self-publishing houses that will publish your book for you.
Or, if you are not a great writer, you can hire a ghost writer. You can invest in an instant author program that will put your picture and name on their book as author. Just be sure you are getting a quality book. Most "Instant Author" programs provide a copy you photocopy and staple into a booklet. Not really much of a book. This will not impress the PTA.
I offer perfect bound (paperback book)Instant Author books with the "author's" picture in full color on the back with a biography. Very professional.
I offer two good magic books, BUT I can also "ghostwrite" a book for you on the topic of your show. I do a "Mysteries of Mathematics" show, so I have written a book by the same title. Give me the name of your show or speech, and notes on what the show includes and I can produce a book for you at under $4 / copy that will firmly establish you as a professional.
