Tempting the Devil

Tempting the Devil
Hello, and welcome back! School's begun here, and I'm deep into the September romances that have landed on my desk over the last few months. We're also deciding in the forum right now what sort of book our September Book Club Choice will be, and romantic suspense is in the lead. I'll post our September book there and here later this week. In the meantime, I have three new releases to share with you.

Expecting His Brother's Baby (Silhouette Special Edition #1779) Expecting His Brother's Baby (Silhouette Special Edition #1779) by Karen Rose Smith is up first with the third book in her Wild Horse Junction series. Kylie Warner has had to make do a lot in the last few years, but this year has been worse, with the death of her husband and her pregnancy. When she's in an accident, her last ranch hand calls her brother-in-law to come home. But Kylie and Brock Warner, her late husband's half-brother, have a little history of their own that makes his return more than a tad awkward. Unfortunately for them both, the attraction they shared years ago flares up again, hotter than ever, and even more persistent than Kylie's run of bad luck. And for Kylie, the feelings run deeper than just simple lust. But Brock has no intention of sticking around once he's settled things at the ranch for her. His own marriage wasn't too hot, and he doesn't intend to repeat his mistakes. This one's filled with strong characters, not to mention the secondary characters you've met in the previous two stories in the series who make appearances here. This is an emotional read, one you'll be sorry to see end. It's earned four of Cupid's five arrows. And, if you're in southeastern Pennsylvania this weekend (9/2/06), Karen Rose Smith will be doing a booksigning at the Waldenbooks in Park City Center, Lancaster on Saturday, September 2 from 6 - 8 p.m.

Dreaming of You Dreaming of You (St. Martin's Press) by Francis Ray is next. Faith McBride makes up her mind to finally get the man of her dreams, Brandon Grayson, just when his mother's set on matchmaking for him--which makes him swear off relationships. This one is mostly sweet. Faith seems a little too enduring, for lack of a better word, watching for years while the man she loves is romancing other women, and Brandon is a tad dense when it comes to Faith's feelings for him. But it was a good read. I'm giving it three arrows.

Tempting the Devil Tempting the Devil (Berkley) by Patricia Potter is last this time out, with reporter Robin Stuart on the trail of a big story. If she could only get someone to talk to her. Ben Taylor has a hunch her story is related to a case he's been working, and when she gets her story, he's after her source. And he's not the only one, and the other people after her source aren't very nice about trying to get her to talk. This is a great book. The suspense is taut, the characters well-matched in conflict, and the romance believable. What more could a romance reader want? This one's also earned four arrows. It's a definite keeper.

Until next time, happy reading!
