How Can You Support Your Favorite Team or Player?

Guest Author - Judith Hodges

Looking for a way to support your team or favorite player this season? Here are a few ideas on how to support your team with pride and gusto.

1. Going to the games and buying programs and snacks. This is an easy way to show everyone that you support the school and the students. Buying tickets for the games gives money to the football program. Buying football programs is a great way to support cheerleaders because they usually make the money off of the programs. The concession stands are provided by the band at most schools, so this gives money to help the band. I personally can't buy a program because our team loses every time I buy one. Sorry cheerleaders!

2. Tee shirts and other things to wear- Most schools sell tee shirts and hats at the game. Try a local sporting good store for your team gear. Crazy wigs and body paint are fun. Since most places start putting out Halloween stuff right after the 4th of July now, try your local chain store for body paint and wigs. There are places online like Café Press that make tee shirts and other things with whatever you want on them. I also like York Photo because you can upload your favorite picture and have it printed on a shirt.

3. Buttons- Many moms wear the big picture buttons on game day. Searching the internet for button presses available for sale, I realized this is not a cheap way to support your team. Some groups at the school sell buttons for parents to support their kids and it would cost you less. Usually, buttons are part of a player's picture options each year. So check with your school about the sale of football items.

4. Donate- Whether it is time or dollars, the football team can always use help. Contact the booster club and find out what you can do to help the team. I personally make a meal for the JV team before games on Thursday night. Some schools allow the cheerleaders to make goody bags for the players on Friday. You can donate candy or anything they need to make the bags. It is a cheap, fun way to support the players.

5. Signs- Make a poster with your player's name and number on it. It can be put in your front yard until game time and then take it to the game with you. If done out of the right material, a poster can last the whole season.

These are just a few ways to show your support. By doing little things to show your support, it lets your player know how important he is to you. It is about being more than just another face in the stands. It is about being a proud parent or family member of someone on the field.
