Sew Skirts to Fit Madeline and Raggedy Ann 15 to 18 inch Dolls
Guest Author - Susan Kramer

This skirt will fit 15 inch (37.5cm) to 18 inch (45cm) dolls such as Madeline and Raggedy Ann. For clothes to fit 18 inch (45cm) American Girl, Gotz Precious Day, Corolle and similar body-type dolls click here.

I rate this a beginner project.

Material and Supplies

- Piece of material 9.5 inches (25cm) long and 23 inches (58cm) wide for skirt.

- 11 inches (28cm) one quarter inch elastic for waistband.

- Matching thread.

- The material I used is a plaid with a solid color bonded to the back. So, it could be reversible if you turned in and blind stitched all the seams.

The photo below shows the skirt and jacket as an ensemble.

Sewing Instructions

Sew short sides together with one half inch seam and turn in once more and blind stitch to form a finished seam.

Waistband

Turn in one half inch twice to form casing and sew, leaving one inch opening to run the 11 inch piece of elastic through. Sew opening closed.

Hem at lower edge is one half inch (1.5cm) turned up twice and blind-stitched. To be sure about your doll, measure for the length before hemming lower edge.

On the skirt in the photos I've turned the hem to the finished rather than unfinished side to form the contrast - keeping in mind this is a material bonded with 2 different materials, the plain and the plaid.

If your material is one thickness, turn up twice and blind stitch hem to the inside of skirt for a nice finish.

Enjoy this very easy doll skirt making project!
