This is an organized way to find the resources for the nonverbal child on the Autism Spectrum and those that have limited language skills. Also listed are sites to purchase supplies for making cards and products for enhancing communication.

Augmentative Resources - this site has velcro, notebooks, visual aid displays, folders, aprons, display boards and picture schedules.

Autism Language Program - this is at Children's Hospital in Boston. They have a music program you can purchase and other software programs.

Autism Shop - here is where you can purchase Eye Box Tools

Best Pictures Of - this is another option of obtaining images online for free.

Boardmaker Activities - this is from Fairfax County Public Schools and include a Jack O' Lantern face and tracing a pumpkin. Other boards include weather, first and then and writing activities.

Boardmaker Help - these are tutorials on Boardmaker and frequently asked questions with links for or shortcuts and resources from AACintervention.com

Communication Aids - this site has products online to order for adults and children or you can request a catalog. They have talking pictures, porta boards. Their prices are reasonable!

Creative Learning 4 Kidz - the materials at this site are printed in color on 110lb acid-free cardstock and heat laminated with 5mil. lamination. Items are bound with vinyl coil binding and are extremely durable. VELCOINS® are used on all items with removable pieces. Items are made as orders are placed.

Developing an Intervention Program for the Non-Verbal Child with Autism - this site has a breakdown on various communication systems with photos. They also use True Object Based Icons (TOBIs), PECS and Voice Output Communication Aids (VOCAs).

Ellie Cards - completely assembled and ready to use. Laminated cards, reinforcer cards, food cards and many others to choose from.

Facilitated Communication Institute - an alternative means of expression for people who cannot speak, or whose speech is highly limited (e.g. echoed, limited to one or a few word utterances), and who cannot point reliably.

File Folder Activities - printables that includes substraction and multiplication tables.

Free Software - this site has software for children who want to use the computer but can't yet use a keyboard. The downloads including steps to go to the Doctor, Dentist, get a haircut and the Holidays, including a few for Halloween.

Free Website for Symbol Readers - Learning and social stories.

Grocery Pecs - a large collection (over 2,000) of realistic pictures. Can also be downloaded in zip format. There are even instructions on how to make a visual grocery list. Wonderful examples of various sizes of pecs and flashcards. Don't miss this site!

MakingPECSCards - this is the yahoo group I own that has images posted and a round robin is sent to members to share extra supplies.

Natural Learning Concepts - learn to talk about it series (7 sets) of laminated cards for conversations. Great for verbal behavior.

Overboard Communications Overlay and Board Designer - download a free evaluation copy. Overboard is a leading tool for parents, teachers and speech language pathologists for creating printed communication boards, schedules, reading/writing activities, visual supports and speech enhanced dynamic display (AAC) solutions.

PECS - learn about the picture exchange communication system (PECS), sign up for a seminar, take the training and join their yahoo group to learn more about making the cards and how to use them through the training steps.

Picture Card Communication - each PictureCard Communication System is made to order to meet individual needs.

Picture Planner - this is icon-based personal planning.

Picture Recipes - these are printable.

Q Charm - this is a portable and visual cuing system.

Sample from Parenting your complex child - this has three columns - one is the picture to use, the next one is the activity with the last column listed for instructions to caregivers. This is a good example of how to prepare caregivers, support help and respite workers on how to communicate with the nonverbal child/adult.


Schedules in the classroom - this includes waiting for the bus, lunch and math schedules.

Silent No More Communication Boards - these boards are laminated and for use in the community by police and rescue personnel to help communicate with those who are deaf, non-verbal or speak another language.

Take and Teach Language Kits - Take and Teach Language Kits present language exposure and enrichment materials within the framework of a thematic unit to target students with moderate to severe mental impairments.

Tangible Symbol Systems - this is a method of communication that uses concrete, rather than abstract symbols.
