Eid Ul Fitr Eid-ul-Fitr is a day of Thanksgiving and a very joyous occasion for billions of Muslims around the globe. It marks the end of 30 days of Fasting during the month of Ramadan. Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on the 1st of Shawwal (The 10th Month of the Islamic Calendar) and Muslims eagerly look out for the birth of the new moon which heralds the arrival of Eid. Anas R.A (a companion of The Holy Prophet S.A.W has reported that when the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) emigrated from Mecca to Madinah, the people of Madinah used to have two festival days. The Holy Prophet (Peace be upon Him) asked the Ansaar (these are the Muslims of Madinah) about it. They said that before Islam they used to have carnivals on those two joyous days. The Prophet Muhammad S.A.W then informed them: 'Instead of those two days, Allah has appointed two other days which are better, the days of Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha.' There are numerous Sunnah (practices) of the Beloved Prophet S.A.W that you can follow. Wake up early. The Eid Ul Fitr Prayer takes place early in the morning and you wouldn't want to miss it. Take a Ghusl (bath) after Fajr (early morning pre-dawn prayer). Brush your teeth. Use a miswaak if possible. (This is a special tooth cleaning twig and it's use was highly recommended by The Prophet S.A.W Dress in clean clothing which is free from any traces of impurity.Try and ear the best clothes that you have, whether they are old or new.If you can afford to do so, try to buy new clothing for this special occasion. You also need to ensure that the clothing you choose to wear is modest and covers the body as the Shariah (Islamic Law) requires. Use Itr (perfume) This applies to men only. Have breakfast on Eid-al-Fitr before leaving for prayer ground. Pay Zakaat-al-Fitr before Salaat-al-Eid (on Eid-al-Fitr). Go to prayer ground or mosque early. Offer Eid Salaah in congregation in an open place if the weather permits. (If not Eid Salaat can be offered indoors in a mosque) Use two different routes to and from the prayer ground. Recite the following Takbir on the way to Salaat and until the beginning of Salaat-al-Eid: Allaho-Akber, Allaho-Akber. La ila-ha ill-lal-lah. Allaho-Akber, Allaho-Akber. Wa-lilahill hamd. (Allah is great, Allah is great. There is no god but Allah. Allah is great, Allah is great. And all praises are for Allah). | Related Articles | Previous Features | Site Map
