November '06 Paranormals

Guest Author - Elizabeth Darrach

Hello, and welcome back! It's warmed up again here, but not for long. I've almost worked out the computer issues here, with the exception of the office printer that won't cooperate with the new tower and actually print. Soon, though.... In the meantime, I've been taking sanity breaks and reading. I'm about halfway through the November stack in my reading already, with only about eight more to go, so I'm a little further in the reading than the reviewing currently. This time out, I have three new paranormals to share with you.

Touch of Desire Touch of Desire (St. Martin's) by Susan Spencer Paul is up first, with Malachi Seymour, Earl of Graymar, trying to fend off the very curious authoress Sarah Tamony who keeps insisting on an interview with him about magic. I confess to feeling a little blah about this one. It didn't really grab me, nor did Sarah endear herself with her blind persistence despite refusals or even the dictates of common manners. Her stubbonness lands her in trouble, not to mention the trouble which stalks her otherwise. I'm afraid this one isn't a keeper for me.

Seduced by Magic Seduced by Magic (St. Martin's) by Cheyenne McCray is next. I'm not a fan of Ms. McCray's previous works, and I'm afraid this one hasn't made it to my keeper shelf either. Witch Copper Ashcroft may be talented, but she's not as good as she could be. When a spell backfires, she winds up in an Otherworld, and she compounds the mistake by bringing in Tiernan, who's been trying to help her sister get her back. I'm quite sure her fans will disagree with me, but this is too busy and just plain not for me.

Love at First Bite Love at First Bite (St. Martin's) has stories by Sherrilyn Kenyon, L. A. Banks, Susan Squires, and Ronda Thompson, all centered around creatures with very sharp teeth. The Kenyon tale will thrill fans of her Dark Hunter series, as will the Squires, with her Companion story. L. A. Banks offers up a prequel to her Vampire Huntress series, which I found rather intriguing, and Ronda Thompson shares a third of her Wild Wulf brothers, this one previously unknown to his family. For fans of the vampires, I'm sure this collection will be a welcome addition to the keeper shelves.

Until next time, happy reading!
