Mac Geek TattoosThere are those who so unashamedly love their Apple computers, their love goes just a bit further than skin deep. Just as there are those who show their support for the Nike brand by getting the company logo tattooed on themselves, there are Apple brand and Mac computer fans who are just as hardcore about their hardware and their ink. Given the devotion of this small population to their computer brand, it's really not surprising that folks get tattooed. Some folks go for the classic logo, the Apple icon rendered in rainbow stripes. Others prefer the more modern Apple done in just black and white. Whether colored very 2D and flat like the original or if you add the 3D shading of the current icons, the simple shape works great as a tattoo. Being an apple, it's only really visually offensive to people who don't think you should have computer logos tattooed on yourself. For anyone unfamiliar with the brand, it's just going to look like a simple fruit tattoo. Then there's the little icon that's the power button. This open circle with a little bar is even more enigmatic and mysterious an image and might be considered by some to be a sign of a someone who is more than the average geek. At a Macworld convention in Boston, a company introduced an etching service for iPod, PowerBooks and other Apple products, whereby you could almost have your Mac tattooed. Designs ranged from simple personalizations up through elaborate surface designs for the entire item. There are several sites on the Internet devoted to celebrating select and inked community. BMEzine, the net's largest body mod community, has a collection, so does web zine BoingBoing, so does the web site for print mag Wired. And then there are the different Apple fans themselves. They make little collections on their own web sites, or post a step-by-step photo gallery on sites like Flickr.
