You can’t function well in life without having the ability to communicate effectively. Whether you’re communicating in business or day-to-day with family, how well you communicate often determines how satisfied you are with yourself and your life. Effective communication begins with belief.

How well you can express yourself with body language, speaking, listening and writing skills begins with a fundamental belief in yourself. Here’s a powerful secret: If you’re uncomfortable or dissatisfied with yourself, you will not be able to communicate effectively. How you feel about yourself on the inside is reflected back to you by how well you’re able to communicate positively and productively with others.

Here are a few self-development/communication skill-building tips:

1. How you’re communicating is sometimes even more important than what you’re saying. Have you determined your style of communication? Is it excited or laid-back? Do you listen more than you speak? Do you tend to speak softly or loudly? Do you ask questions or bark orders? Do you make eye contact or look away while talking?

There are no wrong or right communication styles. Some styles though are more effective and satisfying than others. What’s your communication style and is it effectively allowing you to express yourself?


2. Belief in yourself is a powerful communication skill! You will only communicate with authority and conviction what you believe to be true. How comfortable you are in communicating your likes, dislikes, desires and feelings are in direct proportion to the belief system you have about yourself.

A positive and empowered belief system creates an excited passion about life and that passion is expressed in all aspects of your communication style. If you are convinced that what you’re communicating is important, you’ll naturally convey your excitement and conviction.


3. Communicating with passion is like wearing a powerful people magnet. Passion has an invisible power that can literally draw people to you and your message. The key to unstoppable passion stems from unstoppable belief. Belief in yourself and your life’s mission can add up to an undeniable excitement for living your best life ever. Passion comes across as excitement and energy and that equals greater self-confidence.

Passion mixed with self-confidence has a magnetic draw. This magnetic attraction is often called charisma. Whether it’s family, friends or business associates, belief and passion are powerful communicators.


4. Self-confidence can overcome fear and open up new lines of communication. The more passion you have for your message, the more self-confidence will emerge. There’s power in an unstoppable belief in yourself and the message you want to communicate. Self-confidence can help overcome shyness, reluctance and even fear. Self-confidence provides the courage to speak up and stand up for what you believe. Belief in yourself and self-confidence go hand-in-hand.


Good communication is a learned skill. This skill though is founded in belief –the positive and unstoppable belief you have about yourself and your message.
