Calls For Submissions: Women Writers

Guest Author - Danielle Hollister

In recognition of National Women's History Month, I spent some time searching online for publishers primarily seeking submissions from women. I compiled the special list below of selected websites. Enjoy!

  1. Crones Unlimited
A cooperative press that publishes poetry, short stories and essays by mentor Crones and Sages that strengthen the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of families, communities, and future generations. To celebrate the grace and dignity of Crones and Sages everywhere who have achieved a state of knowing as keepers of life's crossroads, those small, necessary deaths -- career failures, divorce, the loss of a loved one -- that should become opportunities for rebirth and preparation for the final death and rebirth. To print that which compells us toward self-examination and the wisdom only a writer acquainted with the shadow self can offer, like songs and stories that yield a harvest of insights. To satisfy our reader's inner cries for joy and help them more deeply appreciate a universe filled with possibility. To honor authors, Crones and Sages who use poetry and prose to transform their intuitive, everyday experiences into a resonating, sometimes quiet voice that can speak to and heal the radiant body/mind and prepare our souls for another realm.

  2. " In Her Element: Women's Experiences of the Welsh Landscape"
Call for Submissions - A New autobiographical anthology We are looking for walkers, climbers, mountaineers, nature-lovers, star gazers, midnight ramblers, artists, farmers, conservationists, pilgrims and pot-holers – women whose lives and work are inspired by the welsh landscape. What does your connection to the natural world mean to you ? Is it an important part of your everyday life, or do you recall one special moment or walk on which you felt an intimate connection with the landscape around you ? Have you pushed yourself to the limit on a climb or pitted yourself against the elements ? Why did you do it ? Have you taken a pilgrimage , a spiritual or emotional journey on foot ? Did you gain an greater understanding of yourself and the world around you ? If you have found yourself in your element in the Welsh landscape, we'd like to hear from you. We are looking for autobiographical pieces between ( 1000 and 4000 words ), which relate strongly to a particular place or series of places in Wales.

  3. Spinsters Ink
is committed to giving voice to women writers from every walk of life. Our mission is to publish fiction and nonfiction that taps into the hopes, fears, dreams and even secret fantasies of women today. These are the books that recognize our commonality, celebrate our diversity, and honor our strength in the face of adversity. Just as is true in life, Spinsters books don't always have a happy ending - but they ARE always life-affirming. These are the stories of our lives.

  4. Sumach Press
Our Women's Issues Publishing Program promotes feminist titles that explore the contours of a more humane and equitable society on issues of race, gender and class. Call for Submissions We are looking for submissions for an upcoming YA story collection on mothers and daughters and body image. Fiction Those interested in submitting adult fiction can either send an outline together with sample chapters, or a complete manuscript. If you are writing for young adults, you can send a story proposal or a complete manuscript. Please keep in mind that as a feminist press we are looking for non-sexist, non-racist stories which relate to young people's lives today. Non-Fiction If you are submitting non-fiction, you can send a proposal, sample chapters or full manuscripts.

  5. Vane Women Press
was launched in 1993 as the publishing arm of the Vane Women performing and writing collective. We are a small press committed to bringing out the work of women writers in the North East.

I’d love to profile her here. Email me today to nominate her.
