Friends or More?
By the time this article appears, Bianca will have returned to her life in Paris and Zoe will be in London, recording her first post-Zarf album. They left Pine Valley as friends, determined to support each other and take a "wait and see" approach to the development of their relationship.
To be honest, I think I am glad that the relationship will be developed off camera. Bianca is a great character, with so much to offer her friends and family in Pine Valley. Zoe is just as dynamic. Initially, I was sure I'd dislike this character. But she is strong, and determined to be herself, after so many years of hiding behind the person others thought she should be. Both characters have been fun to watch as they learn and grow. But this "love" between them.... I am just not sure that I buy it.
I can see the friendship. Bianca knows how difficult coming out can be. It's easy for her to sympathize with Zoe's journey to find herself. And Zoe does need a friend to support her through the transition from man to woman. Neither woman is under any illusions about how difficult the transformation will be. It's great that Bianca is selflessly offering her full support. (Not that anything less could be expected from Miss Montgomery!)
Bianca's infatuation with her friend just seems to have come out of no where. It feels like it was something that the writer's forced out. The story doesn't feel "real" at all. Others have complained about Binks falling for a man, or at least falling for someone with male equipment. That part isn't a problem to me. Love is love, and no one--not even a soap character--can control who they fall in love with.
Problem is, like I said, this "love" seems to have come out of no where. Just a few weeks ago, Bianca was still hurting over her breakup with Maggie. Seems she said at that time she was not ready to even think about a relationship with anyone else. And now we are supposed to believe she is totally head-over-heels for Zoe? Kind of a stretch, if you ask me.
I do hope these two can keep their friendship intact as Zoe goes through the transition. Maybe they will come back to Pine Valley as more than friends. For now, though, I just hope can find a little happiness.
