Sam McCall Grows Up

Sam McCall Grows Up
It's hard to fault a girl for falling for Jason Morgan. He is, in many ways, the Prince Charming we all grew up dreaming about. He is handsome, rich, loyal, and generous. All at once, Jason manages to be dangerous and safe, strong and gentle. Once you get passed the mob affiliation, Jason is almost too good to be true. And just one look into those blue eyes makes the whole world disappear.

The problem, though, is that Jason—besides that whole hit man thing—is just too perfect. He tries so hard to be everything to everyone, and those closet too him end up hurt.

Sam finally admitted that this week. For the past couple of years, she has looked to Jason as her reason to live. She was scared to raise a baby alone, and Jason was there to help (which is one more thing to love about him). She had no where to live, so she moved into Jason’s penthouse. She had no way to support herself, so she relied on Jason’s money. Until Everyday heroes came along, Sam really had nothing of her own. She depended on Jason for her survival.

To be with Jason meant finding a way to fit into his world. With her con-artist past, this really wasn’t difficult for Sam. She was used to watching her back, sniffing out trouble, and living outside the law.

She wasn’t used to kindness or being loved. That made it easy to mistake Jason’s attention and compassion for real love. She craved his love so much that Sam was willing to take a backseat to the “coffee business”, to Sonny, and even to Carly.

Her job as a TV host gave Sam the chance to be in the spotlight. Amelia (out of less than pure motives) made her number one, the most important person, and that is something Sam hadn’t had before. It made Sam look at her life and realize that she deserves more than being second best, more than just half0truths from her “fiancée”. Above all, she saw that she deserves more than whatever time Jason has left after tending to his work, catering to Carly’s needs, and looking after Elizabeth’s desires.

Sam was wrong to keep quiet about Jake’s kidnapping. No matter how broken her heart was about not being able to have a child, no matter what anger and frustration she felt toward his parents, she should never have involved the child. There are plenty of other ways she could have let her emotions out without putting Jake’s life at risk

As unforgiveable as her actions are, it is probably good that Sam chose to act that way. It finally gave her the strength to tell Jason that she is worth more and is willing to settle for nothing less than being his top priority.
Will Sam be able to stick with her declaration hat she and Jason are over? Judging by his threat to turn her in as an accessory to kidnapping, I don’t see how she has much choice. Though they have worked through countless problems in the past, this time they may not be able to find there way back to each other.

Will the end of Sam and Jason pave the way for a Jason and Elizabeth romance? I hope not.

But that is another story.
