Vision Boards – Picturing Success

The human mind thinks in pictures. Everyday we visualize the world as it is and how we perceive it to be. Vision boards direct your mental motion pictures toward the positives in life. Think of a vision board as your personal storyboard of wants and goals for the future.

We won’t get into the power of visualizing and affirming in this article, but believe me when I tell you that what you focus on most often becomes your reality. The unconscious/subconscious part of your mind plays a major role in controlling your mental pictures. A vision board is useful for reprogramming the negatives lodged deeply in the unconscious mind into more positive and useful goal achieving thoughts and habits.

I’ve always created vision boards for my life. I have more than one in my office right now. When I was packing to move into my current home I discovered a vision board that I’d created probably five years before. I studied the pictures and words and much to my amazement, I realized I had achieved about 80 percent of the goals on that board. The power of the unconscious mind is an amazing thing!

Think of vision boards this way, as a child you looked at magazines, drew pictures and wrote power words to describe your dreams of the future. You cut pictures out of magazines and pasted them on a poster board or in a scrape book. You often drew additional pictures and even wrote words describing these pictures. Vision boards are basically the same thing. They are visual representations of your future goals, wants and desires.

As children we were unconsciously visualizing the future. We should be doing the same thing as adults. Your mind is programmed to give you what you want. Your mind doesn’t know the difference between fact or fiction, negative or positive or reality and dreams of the future. Your mind is programmed to keep you safe, give you what you ask for and make your most dominant thoughts reality. That’s where a vision board comes in.

Vision boards are subliminal ways to reprogram your mind away from negative self-limiting thoughts and habits and toward a more self-confident future.

A vision board is a tangible representation of your positive “wants” in life. It’s filled with your goals, motivators, positive affirmations and those special things that make you smile. Every time you look at your vision board you are focusing on a positive and empowered future. You are literally reprogramming your unconscious mind away from the negatives and toward the positives.

Vision boards can be as simple as a poster filled with pictures and words about your goals. Or, it can be a computer generated vision board with music that can be played and saved on your computer. Or, it can be a screen saver filled with pictures of goals. I have a poster filled with my goals and power words and a computer generated vision board. I use them both everyday.

Looking at the vision board is a great start. An additional and vital element to achieving your goals is ACTION! You can look and look all day long but if you don’t take action, your goals remain only dreams.
