Hello, and welcome back! I'm going to get to enjoy the fall weather a little bit today, between errands, chores and a little reading. My October stack of review romances is slowly shrinking, but I still have some books there I'm looking forward to diving into and exploring fully. This time out, I have two new paranormal romances to share with you.

Witch in the House (Avon) by Jenna McKnight is up first. Mason Kincaid just got left at the altar, and his best pal and business partner has dragged him off on a new job to distract him (and sober him up). Jade Delarue might just be the distraction he needs to mend his broken heart, except he's there to investigate her for possible insurance fraud. Jade is horrified when Mason arrives, having just cleared up the remnants of a spell gone wrong that involves a man who looks just like him, but this 'birdwatching' hunk seems oblivious to any magic she might have done. I'll start off by saying this one is cute. It's a fun, light read that glosses over the steamy bits (which I found a little disappointing), but I didn't find it a keeper. Mason waits far too long to tell her the truth about his visit to her inn, though Jade has every right to throw his cute behind out when she learns the truth. This one just didn't make me fall in love with Mason, who might be good to look at, but didn't seem too sympathetic. Jade I liked just fine, but that's not enough to make this book a keeper. This one's earned only three of Cupid's five arrows. Not a bad distraction for a few chilly fall hours, though.

Eve Silver's Demon's Kiss (Forever) is up next with another slight shift in storytelling for her. This time, rather than continuing with another gothic historical romance, this one is set in the present, but still with the gothic elements to pull the reader in, and this time, her hero is a sorceror, Ciarran D'Arbois. His duty is to keep the demons away from the humans, but the demons are getting stronger and more peristent. Ciarran had a brush with Clea Masters once before, many years ago, and now he realizes he's got to keep her safe again, not just from the demon who would use her to bring the worst sort of evil into the world of man, but also from the dark side of himself. Because during their previous meeting, Ciarran sustained an injury that left him far different. Now, though, the evil that had brought about their first meeting has gained in strength and continues to grow, and Clea is the target of the one who would bring the ultimate evil across the barriers and into this world. Clea is no shrinking violet, but she's no match for a demon or a demon hybrid, but she's not about to let Ciarran fight on his own, not when she can help him with this magic of hers, something she never knew she possessed. I enjoyed this one quite a lot. Ciarran is just about the perfect hero, willing to sacrifice himself to accomplish the job, to keep his woman safe, and sexy as all get out. Clea is his perfect match, smart and determined, and able to help him see a different solution when the time comes. Fabulous. This one's earned four and a half arrows. I can't wait for the next story in this series.
