Do you ever feel as if there are not enough hours in a day? These ten tips will help you prioritize, plan and prepare for your day. It’s time we decide to manage our day and not allow our valuable time to slip away. No more wasting time!
1. Organize your life! – I know that may sound simple yet for many of us it is one of the most difficult aspects of time management. Spend a day, two or a week clearing the clutter. Throw things away, file things where they belong, dust and vacuum. You’ll be so much more productive when you have a space in which you’re excited to spend time. Really, when you think about it, how much time is wasted and frustration created by trying to find things. Organizing is vital!
2. Write out your goals and plans – It’s much easier to accomplish things when they are written down. Goals help you prioritize. Prioritizing leads to planning. When you plan your day your task completion rate goes up. Make a list of must-dos or must completes for the day and stick to it.
3. Eliminate time wasters – If you looked at your day-to-day routine, what would you say are the biggest time wasters? Is it time to tackle the T.V. and spend less time watching and more time doing? How about trying to find lost items? Cleaning and organizing could very well solve that time waster. How many time wasters can you eliminate during the next week?
4. Take action and make things happen – It’s a gigantic waste of time waiting for things to happen when you can be proactive and make them happen. What issues need to be tackled right now?
5. Fix the things that aren’t working properly – How much time is wasted trying to make things work that just don’t work the way they should? This applies to your life and your lifestyle. Is it time to fix it or eliminate it? Something I learned a long time ago, you have to make peace with what’s not working and move on.
6. Learn to delegate – For many of us, that’s a challenge. You can’t do everything for everyone and expect to get things done in a timely manner. If someone else can do it just as well or better, delegate. Ask for help!
7. Plan your trips in advance – When making a trip to the mall, how many other tasks can you take care of along the way? Call it multi-tasking or smart time management but doing as many chores along the way will save you time, money and energy in the long run.
8. Time management is an attitude – Do you take yourself and your time seriously? That’s what time management is all about – taking yourself seriously and valuing your time. When you value yourself, you value your time!
9. Say “no” without guilt – Here’s a fact: You cannot be everything for everyone. Prioritize what is important to mind, body and spirit and say “yes” to those things. A question I consistently ask myself – “How will this change the lives of myself and/or my loved-ones for the better?” If you can answer that question with a positive and powerful answer, then say “yes.”
10. Take good physical, emotional and spiritual care of yourself – When you are feeling at your best, you’re more inclined to use time wisely. Make time to care for yourself. Your life and time are important – make each moment your best ever!
The sun’s rays do not burn until brought to a focus.”
