The holidays are a great time to be with family and friends. Buying gifts can become an expensive gesture to show your loved ones you're thinking about them. Board games come in all shapes, sizes, and prices. There are plenty of nice choices of board games that can be found for under $10. There are also some creative ways to give the gift of gaming that cost as low as free.

Some board games go on sale this time of year. From classic kids games to games based on popular TV shows, these games can be fun and also very affordable.

Candyland is a fun first board game for kids. There is no reading required. The basic game retails for under $10 and can be bought featuring adorable characters like Dora. Many classic kids games like Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, and Hi-Ho Cherry O can be found for under $10. Look for games that are fad-based like Are you smarter than a 5th grader? to be on sale this holiday.

Check those weekly sales papers for board game deals. Also, be on the hunt for special online deals and coupon codes to save even more.

Many board games can be found in thrift stores and secondhand shops. While pieces might be missing, using board game pieces can be used to create a crafty, one of a kind piece of art. Using Scrabble letters to spell out a holiday message of good cheer or creating a montage with several various board game pieces will make a great gift.
