The back of the torso offers the largest and flatest surface area of the entire human body, so it should come as no surprise that many people with tattoos choose to have a single, unified, large design tattooed on their backs. Enduring a full back tattoos is a mixed bag. The shoulders and upper back have a good amount of muscle and body fat and are therefore padded somewhat against the sensations of being tattooed. However the spine is extremely boney and the areas just over and around the kidneys are very sensitive. It takes some endurance and willpower to have those areas heavily tattooed.
