Harley & Gus

Gus was the love of Harley’s life. Both detectives with checkered pasts, Harley and Gus were a perfect fit. They were the rebels of their families; Gus never accepted being a Spaulding, and Harley defied Buzz and Frank every step of the way. Remember the days of the fearless foursome: Beth, Phillip, Rick and Mindy? Harley never really fit into that mold. She was so much like Daisy because they both didn’t want to fit in. Harley and Alan-Michael were like childhood sweethearts, but they could never match the fire of Gus and Harley. Even though Natalia and Gus were childhood sweethearts, nothing compares to the Daytime Emmy Winners for Most Irresistible Combination (2005): Gus & Harley.

Detective Harley Cooper

Harley is not your typical heroine. She is neither dainty nor extremely feminine, and she isn’t waiting around for a man to rescue her. Harley lives up to her name; she is strong and fearless. Detective Harley Cooper is no pushover. In a family of cops, she holds her own. Harley’s character is refreshing, because she shows that there is nothing wrong with a woman being confident and sassy.

Harley & the Cooper Gang

It has to be hard to grow up as the only girl in the Cooper family. Frank is Harley’s overprotective brother, trying his best to keep wayward Harley on a straight path. Frank has never approved of Harley’s love affairs: Alan-Michael, Josh, Gus, Mallet, or Phillip. He had an especially difficult time with Rick even though Harley and Rick only had a brief fling. The one affair Frank is having the hardest time with is Cyrus, because the love affair ended up breaking his daughter’s heart.

Over the years, Harley has experienced some crazy events: including having twins by two men, morphing into a superhero, and stealing her niece’s boyfriend! I have watched Harley grow from a rebellious teenager to an independent woman. Her presence on 5th street will truly be missed.
