King Toad
Guest Author - Lynn Little

Ages 5 and up

Players 2 -6

Playing Time 15 minutes

King Toad is a sequence card game where players must play cards in numerical order. There are some silly rules that add to the fun of this relatively fast card game.

The game consists of 60 cards and six toad-kens. Cards are numbered 1-4 in four dfferent colors. There are twelve King Toad cards that act as wild cards in the deck. Collect six toad-kens to win the game. You collect a toad-ken each time you are the first player to play all of your cards in your hand.

Each player receives six cards and the person with the longest tongue goes first. They begin play by playing a one card on the table. Then the player to the left must play a two card. Play continues until the number four is played. Then the sequence starts over at one.

A player can play a King Toad card to then dictate which number will be played next. They must first say 'King Toad!" and 'ribbit' like a frog. Then flicker their tongue the number of times that represent the next card to play. The other players must count outloud each time the King Toad sticks out their tongue. The player then 'ribbits' again to signal they are done. Then the other players must race to be the first player to play that numbered card on the deck.

Once a person has played all of their cards, then they receive a toad-ken. The first player to receive three toad-kens wins the game.

King Toad is from the game publisher Gamewright that is well-known for short, kids card games. King Toad packs in a lot of fun to a simple card game that can help kids think fast on their feet, learn numbers, and colors. Although it's recommended for ages 5 and up, younger kids as young as three with any attention span at all could play this game with a little supervision.

King Toad features cute character cards and twelve, large toad-kens. It's a fun, fast card game that packs a lot of family fun into it. Pull this one out on game night for something the whole family can enjoy.
