The Tattoos of WELCOME TO COLLINWOOD

If you thought George Clooney looked good all tattooed in the movie FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, you might want to take a look at one of his smaller comedy films called WELCOME TO COLLINWOOD. The film came out in 2002 and was produced by Clooney and his Section Eight production partner Steven Soderbergh. In this crime caper, Clooney's quirky criminal is really covered in tattoos.

Set in small town Cleveland, the film centers around a group of people all down on their luck who need money, and who decide to rob a pawnbroker's safe to solve their problems. It's a nice who's-who cast costarring William H. Macy, Sam Rockwell, Michael Jeter, Luis Guzman and Patricia Clarkson, with Clooney playing a supporting character role and not the usual lead. George's character is Jerzy, a wheelchair bound safecracker who advises the ambitious thieves.

Jerzy is one seriously tattooed guy. Makeup artist Christian Tinsley, who did the fake tattoos on Brad Pitt's hand for the Ocean movies, did the temporary tattoos on Clooney for this film. The designs cover both of his arms, and show on his hands, chest, neck and shoulders when his character is seen wearing a tank top.

The designs are a nice, realistic, personal collection. Although the tattoos appear to mostly all be black-and-white, they don't look like the more fineline type of tattoos someone would have if they spent a lot of time in prison. These are more like the coverage someone would have if they spent a lot of time in bars and hanging out with shady characters. The designs include nautical stars, a tribal sun, some tribal-type faces, a cross, flames and what appears to be a large upper arm piece done to look like an octopus, but it almost looks like the design wasn't quite finished, which lends a bit of a more realistic feeling.
