As We'd Decorate Her art show

Did you know that only about one out of every two hundred working tattoo artists is a woman? If you live in Seattle, you might not realize the percentage is actually so low due to an amazing array of women working in that field in the Puget Sounds area. And now, you can see some of their fine art talents as well!

If you live in the area, or will be traveling to Seattle, Washington in October 2008, and you like tattoos or tattooed women, be sure to stop by Kaladi Bros Coffee. Located at 511 E Pike St in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, just a short walk or bus ride from Pike Place Market, the coffee shop is playing host to a fantastic art show for the entire month called "As We'd Decorate Her."

Organized by local Seattle tattoo artist Gypsy Jill and featuring art work from members of the Women's Tattoo Forum, 'As We'd Decorate Her' is a small but gorgeous fine art show. The art isn't the usual tattoo flash, it's all fine art paintings and illustrations, mostly on canvas but with some mixed media. Most of the art work shows a female figure from a rear view with the woman depicted being a heavily tattooed woman.

The list of participating artists is a who's-who of local female tattooists: Vyvyn Lazonga, Gypsy Jill Greenberg, Majenta, Andrea Ottlewski, Roni Falgout, Tina Bafaro, Alexis Witt, Erika Jones, Kerry Linden, Christy Brooker, Nina Collier, Ruby Santiago, Chani Murat, Ashley Dorr and Suzanna Fisher. If you are in town on October 19th, you absolutely must stop by and catch the historical presentation on female tattooists in the Seattle area. Presented by Jacqueline Beach, herself a Seattle tattoo artist, it should be an interesting and colorful evening!

For more info, visit the Kaladi Bros Coffee site, or the Women's Tattoo Forum.
