35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards Top Ten Moments

1. Party Setting
The Daytime Emmys had a different setting this year. Instead of the traditional row seating, each Daytime Drama and Talk Show was seated at their own table. The idea was to provide a more festive atmosphere, versus the formality of row seating.
2. Daytime Emmy Format
This year, the Daytime Emmys introduced a new format for the nominees in the Outstanding Drama Series category. Clips featured this year’s best moments. Guiding Light ‘s montage featured scenes from Alan’s shooting, Reva’s relationships, and Tammy’s death. The Young and the Restless featured clips from Sheila’s shooting and the Clear Spring’s collapse.
3. Capture the Moment
To give fans a chance to see the celebration’s happenings, video cameras were placed at each table. Fans also had a chance to visit the Soapnet fan booth, where they could share their Daytime Emmy experience.
4. Lifetime Achievement Award
Regis Philbin won the Lifetime Achievement Award. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Regis has more on-air hours than any other TV personality. Regis has been on the air more than 25 years.
5. Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor, The Young and the Restless)
Jeanne Cooper won for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
This is Jeanne Cooper’s first award. She has portrayed the role of Katherine Chancellor on The Young and the Restless since 1973.
6. Ricky Paull Goldin and Beth Ehlers (Gus Itoro and Harley Cooper, Guiding Light/All My Children)
It was strange to see former Guiding Light stars seated at the All My Children’s table. Goldin and Ehlers left Guiding Light in May/June, and are now part of the All My Children cast.
7. Tom Pelphrey (Jonathan Randall, Guiding Light)
Tom Pelphrey of Guiding Light won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series. Tom’s character, Jonathan Randall, quickly became a Guiding Light favorite. Jonathan is the son of Reva Shane and Richard Winslow. Reva and Jonathan had a rocky reunion, but before his departure they made amends. Jonathan is now a reoccurring character on Guiding Light.
8. Courtroom Category
Daytime Emmy Awards added a new category: Outstanding Legal Courtroom Programs. Judge Christina Perez won for Christina’s Court. Some of the other nominees were Judge Hatchett and Judge Judy.
9 Talk Show Categories
Talk shows were separated into two categories. Ellen won her fourth consecutive Emmy for Best Talk Show Host, The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Tyra Banks won her first Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show-Informative, The Tyra Banks Show. Rachael Ray won for Outstanding Talk Show-Entertainment, Rachael Ray.
10. Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters, The Young and the Restless)
Kristoff St. John won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Kristoff’s character, Neil Winters, had a tumultuous year. Neil lost his wife, Drucilla, battled his alcohol addiction, and proposed marriage to his new love, Karen. This is St. John’s second Emmy; he won his first in 1992.
