Books on Water Gardens

Water gardening is all the rage. It continues to grow in popularity. If you’re thinking about adding water features to your landscape, here are some books that will help.

“Garden Pools, Fountains and Waterfalls” by Scott Atkinson et al was released by Sunset Books. Do-it-yourself types will especially love the 16 projects with step by step, color illustrated instructions. While some of these are simple enough to finish in a weekend, others will take a longer time to complete.

Readers will also get all sorts of design ideas from this enlightening book. This also has an encyclopedia of water garden plants. The plant profiles include descriptions, photos, the growing requirements, and tips on care.

There are chapters devoted to each type of water feature. These include fountains, garden pools, waterfalls, and streams. You can also learn all about adding fish. The author also devotes attention to garden maintenance. One chapter explains how to keep your water plants and fish thriving.

“Water Garden Lifestyles-Exploring Water Features Across North America” was released by Aquascape Lifestyles Books. Rather than a how-to, this inspirational guide from Aquascape Designs, Inc. reveals the sense of harmony with nature and the rich experiences that water gardens bring their owners.

It explores all of the many benefits that water gardening has to offer. With over a hundred lush color photos, this book allows readers to tour private water gardens from all over the country. The styles range from ponds to streams and waterfalls.

There are chapters devoted to each aspect of water gardening, including the plants, seasonal color, fish, and other aquatic dwellers.

“Landscape Architecture-Water Features” edited by Alejandro Bahamon was released by Rockport Publishers. This groundbreaking book profiles the works of leading landscape designers from around the world. Readers will find this to be both inspirational and practical.

For each of the profiled designs, there are color plans, sketches, and lush color photos of the completed projects. It has 27 projects in all. This collection spans an array of sites used for various purposes with many of these being public spaces.

The innovative designs feature every imaginable style. What they all have in common are water features as a central theme.

The introduction features a history of water gardening.
