The Father Fracture – Book Review

Many people are familiar with the abusive relationship between Mike Tyson and his ex-wife, Robin Givens. Many people also are aware of the time he spent in jail for raping the beauty pageant contestant in Chicago. There were also many reports that these two women were not his only victims. Meet Pam Pinnock, one of Tyson’s victims. Pam Pinnock found the courage to write about her abusive relationships with men in her adult life and the abuse and abandonment she suffered at the hands of her own father.

Reading Pinnock’s does prove that no matter who you are, how much money you earn, where you live, you too can become a victim of domestic violence. Pam is now a well known publicist who represents people such as Jay Z, John Legend, Ludacris, and Gucci Mane. Her story was fascinating to me and one any victim and survivor of domestic violence can relate to.

Her book is well written and she is very candid about all she went through. While reading her story, you may ask yourself why in the world a woman (or man for that matter) would allow themselves be put through so horrible acts of verbal and physical abuse. Unless you have been a victim yourself, it is hard to understand. Pam helps us realize why most women stay with an abusive partner. You feel trapped, you are verbal beat down, you feel you are useless and are usually told that on so many occasions as Pam was. What really amazed me was that she was in two abusive relationships at the same time! I will not reveal any more about that subject. You will have to read it yourself!

There are few books I read about people’s personal stories of domestic violence that make me put the book down at certain points because a scene caused me to have a trigger of a memory. Pam’s way of writing can strike a pain in your heart. There were several scenes I did have to lay the book aside and catch myself.

I highly recommend anyone who ever wondered about what domestic violence is like to read this book. It is also a great source of inspiration to those who are currently being victimized to see that there is a way out from what you are going through and you are not the only one who is going through what you are right now.
