Rescue Ink

When most people think about or see a heavily-tattooed motorcycle gang, they often imagine outlaw bikers, Hell's Angels, bad behavior and unsavory business. However, along with their bikes, their ink and their tough-guy image, this group has another passion: animals. Bringing the best macho qualities to the world of animal rescue and education is Rescue Ink!

Based in Long Island, New York, these group of bikers love their Harleys as much as they love their cats and dogs. Most of them members grew up with pets or working with animals as kids and kept doing similar work in their adult lives. Formed with the idea of helping animal welfare agencies and shelters deal with escalating issues of animal abuse and neglect, these hardcore animal lovers aren't afraid to give some tough love when it comes to animals who are in need.

"We will stop at nothing within the bounds of the law to protect animals at risk. We will intercede without hesitation when we are informed of a situation that needs to be addressed, and we will address it. If we need to convince people to do the right thing ... we can be very convincing, we'll even buy animals if that's what it takes to get them away from abusers"

The programs Rescue Ink supports and organizes covers a broad range of issues and situations: puppy mill consumer awareness, companion outreach services for the elderly and veterans, TNR (trap, neuter, return) programs for feral cats, school visitations, animal housing workshops, animal advocacy, and pitt bull awareness and education. Most recently the group was in the news for their involvement in the rescue of one hundred and eighty (180) cats from a single home in New York, one of those situations where an owner let her cats breed uncontrollably and then couldn't feed or care for them properly.

If you want to learn more about what they do, or even volunteer if you are in the New York City area, be sure to visit the Rescue Ink web site. You can also help and support Rescue Ink's efforts and programs by shopping at their CafePress store!
