Guiding Light started on the radio, with a handful of characters. Now, Guiding Light is revolutionary; it’s the first soap to use the “natural effect”.

Reva’s Breast Cancer
Reva's battle with breast cancer played a pivotal role in Guiding Light winning the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2007. At a routine mammogram appointment, the doctor gave Reva some shocking news. Reva began her battle with chemotherapy, going through the struggle on her own. Eventually Billy Lewis found out, and Reva swore him to secrecy. Because Reva did not want to burden Josh, she pushed him away; resulting in his relationship with Cassie.

Philips Disappearance/ Philips Return

Philip’s return may single-handedly put Guiding Light back on the map. Ever since 2007, with losing major Stars like Beth Ehlers (Harley Cooper) and Ricky Paul Goldin (Gus Itoro), Guiding Light has been lackluster. The news of Grant Aleksander (Philip) returning to show has brought back longtime fans.
