Tattooed Librarians Flash Their Ink (for a cause!) When someone says "librarian" do you think of a quiet, little old lady pushing a cart of books up the aisle while telling people to "shush?" Or maybe you picture a woman with thick glasses and an overly-tight bun hairdo reading through a very big and dusty book. If so, the Texas Library Assocation would like to change your mind, and do some fundraising in the process. Spurred on by the success of their past men's calendar, the Texas Library Association turned to their lady librarians for this venture. The 18-month calendar features almost two dozen genuine Texas librarians and their tattoos. With a light hint of cheesecake and a good dose of "Calendar Girls," the calendar aims to introduce the public to some dedicated ladies who love books and the occasional piece of body art. The models come from all over, ranging from urban city to rural areas, so that the entire state is represented. The lovely librarians are a wide mix of ages, body types and tattoo styles. There's no doubt these are real, everyday women with who just happen to be librarians, and tattooed ones to boot! Funds raised go towards the restoration and rebuilding of libraries in Texas. There are still a lot of facilities trying to recover from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The TLA Library Disaster Relief Fund is where all monies raised by the calendar sales will go. Calendars are selling briskly! The 40 page, 18 month, color glossy calendar is seling for $20 each. If you'd like to get one, you'll want to order as soon as you can, which you can do from the TLA Website. Tattooed librarians in other areas of the country will find there are a few vibrant communities online just for them! Users of Facebook can check out the Tattooed Librarians group. There's also a group over on Ning for tattooed librarians and other library employees. | Related Articles | Previous Features | Site Map
