Celebrity Moms Promoting Attachment Parenting

Celebrity Moms Promoting Attachment Parenting
The idea behind attachment parenting shouldn't be considered radical. Attachment parenting is simply the idea that being there for your baby when they need you is the best way to grow healthy kids. However, it is nice to see attachment parenting getting positive press to help introduce more parents to the principles of AP.

Mayim Bialik, the actress who starred in the 1990's sitcom Blossom is one vocal proponent of attachment parenting. Her intgerview here is very positive and articulate. Mayim Bialik interview

Other celebrities seen promoting attachment parenting or cloth diapers include the ever celebrated Brad and Angelina (mostly seen wearing their kids and also proponents of cosleeping), Constance Marie and Anne Heche (cltoh diapering) and of course, Rikki Lake has spoken often about her support of homebirthing. A somewhat dated list can be found here Celebrity AP.

Breastfeeding is one area many celebrity moms give a nod to, obviously for many the idea that breastfeeding is the best choice for baby has sunk in. While I am sure that many give breastfeeding only a fleeting attempt, some celebrity moms have stuck with it for extended periods. Jennifer Garner and Gwen Stefani have both been vocal about extended breastfeeding of their babies.

Happy Heiny's maintains a page about celebrities who cloth diaper. Cloth diapers on celebrity babies.

Of course, celebrities are not the only spokespeople for attachment parenting. Every AP mom or dad who wears their baby in public, every mother who breastfeeds as long as she can, every parent who chooses gentle discipline instead of harsh words or actions, every one of us helps to spread the word that there is a better way to raise kids.

Atachment parenting is different for every family. You don't have to cloth diaper to be an AP family and for some moms, breastfeeding is not an option. What really matters is raising your kids in the most supportive, hands-on and gentle way possible.
