A Highlander's Homecoming

A Highlander's Homecoming
Hello, and welcome back! Our snow over the weekend was absolutely gorgeous, except for the shoveling part. But it's been just perfect for staying inside with a nice cup of tea or hot chocolate and some good books to read, which is just what I've been doing, with the occasional break for shoveling snow.

This time out, I have another new Melissa Mayhue, the sixth in her 'Daughters of the Glen' faery series, A Highlander's Homecoming (Pocket). This time, Robert MacQuarrie is about to go back in time to his home in Scotland to take a young woman to safety. But his trip also means he can fulfill the promise he made to a dying friend before being whisked forward in time to take care of his friend's daughter. Except he doesn't get back to exactly the same time, but twenty years later, and the daughter is a woman now, with some serious problems about to change her life. Isabella MacGahan has managed on her own for some time, and not without some difficulty, but now she's got trouble on her doorstep, and only Robbie can protect her. She thinks Robbie's a bit touched, as he's not much older than she, but she has no one else she can trust. Neither plans on falling in love, though, and that may only complicate matters in medieval Scotland, with property and power hanging in the balance. As I mentioned in my review of A Highlander's Destiny in recent weeks, I have enjoyed this series since its beginning, and this story is a fine addition to the saga, with a hero is truly heroic, and a heroine who is more than his match, particularly for a time when women held little power of their own. Robbie is terrific, noble and determined, not to mention sweet and sexy. Then there's the kilt thing.... What more can a fan of good Scottish romance want? How about Isa, with her own determination to do what she needs to for her survival, as well as a heart big enough to let Robbie in despite her doubts. I'm borrowing four and a half of Cupid's five arrows for this one. It's a definite keeper. And fans of the series will be thrilled to get brief visits with couples from previous stories in the series.

Until next time, happy reading!
