If you are old enough to remember the 1970s, you may recall a movie titled "Tattoo" which starred Bruce Dern as a tattoo artist hired to paint some fake tattoos on some fashion models. He then develops an unhealthy, stalker-like obsession with his favorite model Maddie (played by Maude Adams), kidnaps her and forcibly tattoos her body. The movie got a lot of press for some racy love scenes and for the excellent on-screen work of the Temptu company. They did the temporary tattooing on the actors.
That movie did an excellent job portraying modern tattoo style at the time in a realistic fashion. The alcohol-based tattoo paint allowed makeup artists to create realistic texture and shading in the tattoos, and a scene where Adams licked her hand and then rubbed at the skin design (which didn't smear or rub off) added a great dimension of realism.Tempu is back in the news, and this time they are developing a line of temporary tattoos to accompany the Dereon fashion line just put out by singer and actress Beyoncé Knowles. Hitting stores in November 2010, the designs will include the fleur icon that is the trademark of Dereon, faux jewelry designs, and tattoos classics such as spiders and hard rock elements. Although Temput is known for their airbrush tattoo makeup, these temporaries will be applied using a stick-on method. The designs will be sold in kits that will feature several transfer sheets with multiples of a few designs, application pads and collectible images of Beyoncé. Presently the Dereon web site has mailing list sign-up displayed where you can indicate you want to be emailed when the kits become available for sale.
