Baldur's Gate is RPG Fun

Baldur's Gate is a classic RPG that spawned many sequels and imitators. The original is still a fun game, even after a few years.

Baldur's Gate was really the first game that captured the mechanics of live roleplaying and made it easy and fun. You start out the game as a young orphan, cared for by a father figure. He tries to get you out to safety, but you are ambushed.

Now you're on your own and have to figure out what's going on. Along the way you find various weapons, armor, items. You run across people who want you to help them, and can do many side quests. You meet people who want to join you, some good, some bad.

The game is greatly replayable because you can be a variety of character types, play the game as a 'good' person or a 'bad' one. You have different options in each situation, you can team up with an assortment of partners. Even if you know what the quests are, you can still choose to do them in different ways or not do them at all.

Highly recommended for any fan of the Dungeon Siege / NeverWinter Nights types of game, as all of those were take-offs on the Baldur's Gate model. And you can probably find a used copy of Baldur's Gate for little money!
