The First Love Cookie Club

The First Love Cookie Club
Hello, and welcome back! Things at work are starting to get crazy, but I expect no less this time of year. After all, we're heading into crazy season. Unfortunately, that means my reading and writing time gets a bit more constrained due to working more hours, which doesn't make me very happy, especially when I have so many great books waiting to be read.

Before crazy season gets into full swing, though, I have more than a few books to share with you, including the latest from Lori Wilde this time out, The First Love Cookie Club (Avon, purchased). This one continues her 'Twilight, Texas' series, with Sarah Collier returning to her hometown for the first time in years. She had her first, and only, heartbreak there on Christmas Day when she was only fifteen, and she hasn't let anyone into her heart since, intending to keep it safe from harm. But she's come back to visit with a sick little girl who wrote to her author persona 'Sadie Cool', and it turns out the little girl belongs to the man who broke her heart. Travis Walker's sole focus in life is his chronically ill daughter Jazzy, but Sarah's return is a welcome distraction. He remembers her trying to stop his wedding to Jazzy's mother, but the confident woman who's come back to Twilight is not that different from the teenager he remembers. Not in the ways that matter. Still, Sarah has no intention of staying, and she definitely has no intention of letting Travis past her defenses again, but the heart is a tricky thing: sometimes it does exactly what you think you don't want, because it's exactly what you need. Sarah and Travis both have wounds from their pasts, though Sarah holds her closer, reminding herself of all the things that have gone wrong already. Travis is more willing to let his heart have free reign where she's concerned. His daughter is delightful, and you know there's no way Sarah can resist her, no matter whose daughter she is. Twilight, Texas is a charming little town, a place I'm enjoying returning to again and again with this series, with all of its quirky and endearing residents. If you haven't yet tried the series out, you really should. Then you can fall in love, too, with Travis and Sarah and all those who've come before them. I can't wait to see who's next. This one's earned four of Cupid's five arrows.

Until next time, happy reading!
