Cacti/Succulents Nurseries to Visit

Cacti/Succulents Nurseries to Visit
Besides being places to buy plants, some of the better nurseries have become destinations in their own right. I’ve known some nurseries that hosted bus tours. At these nurseries, gardeners can see not only display gardens, but innovative, trend setting landscape displays, and landscaping vignettes from which they can get ideas for their own gardens. Some of the nurseries specializing in cacti and succulents tend to be in the Southwest.

Star Nursery

Star Nursery has retail branches at several locations in Las Vegas as well as elsewhere in Nevada and in Utah. They feature many kinds of cactus as well
as lots of natives.

Cactus Joe’s

Cactus Joe’s Blue Diamond Nursery is less than 15 miles from Las Vegas. Located in Blue Diamond, this retail nursery also has an extensive display garden of desert plants on the grounds. The nursery specializes in cacti and natives with at least 2000 kinds of cacti and succulents for sale. Cactus Joe’s is widely known for its garden art displays. You can choose from various types of pottery styles from talavera to rustic. There’s even a Cactus Joe’s wedding chapel on site.

Logee’s

While some plant catalogs sell only by mail order or phone, others like Logee’s also have a greenhouse or retail store open to the public. You’ll find that Logee’s is well worth a visit. They’re located in Danielson, Connecticut. The greenhouses are full of tropical plants, including many kinds of cacti and succulents. They sell tropical plants that are ideal for indoors as well as container plants for outdoors. They offer both desert and jungle cactus, and succulents. The catalog has a very good collection of orchid cactus. Do check their website for the days and hours as this can vary by season.

Glasshouse Works

Located in Stewart, Ohio, this company sells plants by mail order and online, but is also open to the public certain days of the week. They sell a vast array of connoisseur plants, including tropicals for indoors and container gardens as well as houseplants and hardy plants. Among their offerings are many kinds of succulents. They sell special succulent varieties that are ideal for succulent wreaths, trough gardens, and succulent bonsai varieties.
