Library Sciences Shop At BellaOnline

With so many books and so little time it's hard to decide what to read. Paula takes the guessing out of book buying by providing readers with reviews on the books that matter.

The Librarian, by Larry Beinhart

One of the greatest challenges to any mystery or thriller writer is putting their protagonist in a perilous situation. Beinhart does an excellent job of building reasons that university librarian David Goldberg is on the run from the law and Homeland Security. He finds himself on Virginia's Ten Most Wanted Criminals list for bestiality! As with most political thrillers a willing suspension of disbelief is necessary. Put your skeptisism on hold and enjoy the journey, as The Librarian attempts to keep the presidential election from being hijacked by various political operatives. All the librarians are indicative of people you probably know.

Book Lust: Recommended Reading for Every Mood, Moment, and Reason, by Nancy Pearl

Perhaps one of America's best known librarians, Nancy Pearl offers advice on books to read. The book is contains 170 thematic reading lists that cater to every mood, occasion, and personality. These annotated lists cover such topics as mother-daughter relationships, science for non-scientists, mysteries of all stripes, African-American fiction from a female point of view, must-reads for kids, books on bicycling, and many more. Pearl's enthusiasm and taste shine throughout in this lively and informative illustrated guide. If you want to begin a book group, this books would be the perfect guide. If you want a great reference book for readers, look no further. If you are stumped because it seems that you are trying to decide what to read next, keep this book with you for your next trip to the library. It's as if you have your local librarian is on call 24 hours a day.
