Mount Wachusett
Guest Author - Jeanne Daigle

Mount Wachusett in the summer Mount Wachusett is located in Princeton, Massachusetts on Route 140. You can drive to the top of this mountain where you can actually see the Boston skyline sixty miles away on a clear day. You can also see Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire.

At the base is the visitors center which doesn't have quite enough parking. However, inside is very nice and an excellent display of birds you may come across while hiking on the mountain. The state reservation is located along a migration route for birds of prey. You can see hawks, osprey, falcons and eagles during the October/November migration.

By the way, there are public toilets in the visitor's center too.

Hannah on Mount Wachusett The drive up Mount Wachusett is very nice with many places to stop an view the scenery. Here is my daughter, Hannah, enjoying herself near the summit.

There are quite a few activities at the mountain. you can find an up to date activities list here. During events on the weekends, the Mountain SkyRide is open. The tickets are $3 one way and $5 round trip.

Ski lift at Mount Wachusett During the summer the mountain is a good place to drive to and have a picnic at the summit. There is a little pond with goldfish in it. My daughter thought she could go swimming with them!

During the winter months, Mount Wachusett is probably the best mountain to ski in Massachusetts. You can find more information about skiing at Mount Wachusett beginning in October.

View from Mount Wachusett There are plenty of hiking trails and you can pick up a trail map at the visitor's center along with a guide to the scenic views and list of the overlooks (scenic views) you can visit.
