New Batman Show--Great Intro To Comics
Guest Author - Marci Ann Peterson

My husband has always been a big comic book fan. And when I say big I mean the biggest, he still requests graphic novels as presents and we have to see every comic book movie. It is little wonder that my daughters also love comic books! We even got them each a comic book subscription.

They love to watch the comic book cartoons, they have seen a few of the movies though we do feel that most of them are too intense and/or violent for them right now. There are a few really well done comic book cartoons on TV right now. One of our favorites is Batman: The Brave And The Bold.

You can catch Batman: The Brave And The Bold on Cartoon Network, check your local listing for the day and time. We like to DVR it on Fridays and watch it that night as a family.

The show is based on the DC comic series The Brave And The Bold, which featured team ups of different super heroes from the DC universe. Unlike the comics though the animated show focuses on Batman teaming up with different super heroes.

Mia, my oldest daughter's favorite episode is when Batman teams up with Wildcat, to catch some teenagers and get them to use their powers for good. They end up having to chase the group of teenagers down into the sewer where they have to confront the evil leader, Slug.

Emma, my youngest daughter's favorite episode is when Green Arrow and Batman are transported back in time to the time of King Arthur by Merlin. They have to work together to find the famous Excalibur.

Instead of going with really well known super heroes like Superman and Wonder Woman, the show opted to go with lesser known characters. The list of guest super heroes includes, Blue Beetle, Plastic Man, Elongated Man, Guy Gardner, Hal Jordan, Flash, and more.

The list of villains includes, Chemo, Black Manta, Kanjar Ro, Gorilla Grodd, Sinestro, Gentlemen Ghost, Despero, and more.

The show is much lighter in tone than some of the other Batman cartoons. The show is fun and entertaining for the whole family. It is a show that although not educational provides some light fun entertainment. If you have younger comic book fans I would recommend this show. There is no graphic violence and the humor throughout keeps the show light and entertaining.

If you are a die hard older comic fan then you might find the show too light. My husband enjoys watching the show with our girls, though he did say that he probably wouldn't watch it if it was just him. But this is a perfect show for the older generation to watch with the younger generation as they pass on their love of comic books.
