Email Time Capsule - FutureMe.org
Where will you be and what will you be doing a year from now ? If you could go forward in time and give your future self a message, what would it be?

Would you create a time capsule of your life today or would you give yourself a pep talk? Would you ask yourself questions or offer counsel and inspiration.

In 1935 Joe Young and Fred E. Ahlert published the song, I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter. If Young and Ahlert were writing today the song might have been titled, I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself an email.

If you've ever thought about writing yourself a letter or an email then the website FutureMe.org is the place to start. Send a message to yourself and schedule it to arrive on any date within the next 30 years.

Begin by entering your email address. Since you don’t know where you’ll be in the future or even if your ISP will still be in business, a web based email is the recommended choice. The website suggests using a yahoo or hotmail address, but any web based email that shows promise of being around in the future will suffice.

Next enter your subject. Pick you subject carefully. You don’t want to confuse your message with Spam and delete it by mistake. Years from now, will you remember sending yourself this email? Choose a subject that will remind you of the past and your message to yourself.

If you don’t know what to say, you can browse through the messages of others who have chosen to make their future emails public. People spell out their hopes, dreams, disappointments in their emails to the future. They want to share, to been seen and be heard. It’s a bit like a reality TV show or a blog, where we stand on the sidelines and look into other peoples lives.

People write to themselves about many different things, one was a true time capsule recounting all the current prices for items such as gas, food and cigarettes. The emails include everything from Birthday Wishes to questions about what has happened over the years. Some offer advice and criticism, others offer apologies for past failings. It seems people really do have a lot to say to themselves.

Have you got something to say to yourself? Then write your message, pick a delivery date and hit the "send this to the future" button. You won’t have to wait long for your message to arrive. The future will be here sooner than you think.
