Product Review - Aviator Harness
Guest Author - Denise Lacazette

The Aviator Harness for birds is a harness and leash combo. The harness features one slide – no buckles, no clips, no snaps, etc. The materials used in the construction are sturdy, yet supple enough to be comfortable. The leash allows for some flight and the length can be increased by adding a retractable leash - giving them even more flight distance.

Why I like this product

Before my birds are even old enough to fly, we would take them around our neighborhood orienting them to where “home” is. Recently we have added some older birds that were already flighted, but we needed a way to safely teach them. The Aviator Harness allows us to do that by keeping them safely restrained without severely limiting their freedom. Since we do not wing clip our birds, our former “babies” are still able to enjoy the outdoors by utilizing the harness.

If you have ever tried other harness brands for birds, you are probably
familiar with the multiple buckles and clips required to work them. I have several sitting in a box; I never could figure out how to get them fully fastened so they have gone into my “waste of money” box. The Aviator Harness has 4 basic steps and nothing requires fastening – only tightening. The design also makes it great for small birds. Ever try putting a six clip rig on a conure? It is not fun. This harness puts the rest to shame.

Recommendations

Buy a toy parrot like the one he uses in the video. The design is simple and the harness is easy to use, but practicing on something with wings would have been inordinately helpful for me. The first time I was all fumble fingers because I knew theoretically how it went on, watched it be put on, but I did not have the grace borne of experience those first few times.

We associated the harness with outdoor “walk” time with our parrots. Instead of putting the harness on and walking around indoors, we always go immediately outside so they associate it with a fun outdoor activity. I believe associating it to a special activity makes them excited about putting the harness on.

As a bird owner, I cannot say enough good things about this harness. This product is highly recommended.
