End of the Summer Romance

Hello, and welcome back. I hope you´re all enjoying these last weeks of summer in some comfort. The heat has been miserable here, so we´re surviving in the air conditioning and going out only when necessary. And while I´ve been staying cool inside, I´ve been reading some new and upcoming romances to share with you.

The first book I want to share with you this week is Susan Grace´s latest, "Enemies of the Heart" (Zebra). If you´re familiar with Ms. Grace, you´ll remember her previous book with Lady Cat and Miles. Well, this time out, you get the story of their daughter and her true love. Diana wants a bit of adventure, but now she´s on the run to her aunt´s. Waiting there for her is her future, in the form of Jared Devlin. The pair fall in love but fail to share their secrets, and then they are parted. The road back to love is a rough one, but Jared and Diana are up to the challenge. I really like Ms. Grace´s voice, which shines through in this tale. I´m giving this one three and a half of Cupid´s five arrows.

Next up is a contemporary romance by Natalie Damschroder, Second Chance at Forever
Second Chance at Forever
(Echelon Press). Angie Detmer is looking for a fresh start. Michael Ripley isn´t looking for anything but a way to survive, and he´s not too sure he really wants that. These two wounded souls can help each other, but can they find a way to start fresh together? These are characters who struggle through their daily lives just like the rest of us, and the secondary cast, particularly to helpful neighbors, are great. This is Ms. Damschroder´s second published novel, and I know there´ll be many more to come. This one also earns three and a half arrows.

Finally, we have the debut novel from Sue-Ellen Welfonder, Devil in a Kilt
Devil in a Kilt
(Warner). Linnet MacDonnell isn´t the loveliest of brides, nor is she the most wanted. Her groom-to-be, Duncan MacKenzie, aka the Black Stag, simply wants her for her gift, and he´s none too pleased to see her on her arrival. Nevertheless, once they´ve arrived at his castle, things don´t work out quite the way either of them expects. Duncan cannot care for anyone any longer, or so he thinks. Linnet wants only to do her duty, so she thinks. Together, this couple can heal a lot of past hurts, if they can only avoid inflicting more. Very sexy hero, and a very strong heroine. Ms. Welfonder is hard at work on her second book, and I can´t wait. This one earns four of Cupid´s arrows.

Until next week, enjoy the end of your summer and happy reading!
