The M.A.C. Deck of Cards Project was created to benefit the M.A.C. AIDS Fund. Over the years, this fund has raised over twenty-nine million dollars, and with this project, the total will no doubt climb higher. The fund gets moneys from the Glam lipstick sales and now has both a regular size and oversize deck of cards featuring a stunning collection of body paintings, both raising more funds and showcasing a fantastic collaboration in the visual arts.

With M.A.C. already known for boldly colored cosmetics and an ad style to match, Assouline, Inc. conceived of a body painted deck of playing cards, uniting the incredible M.A.C. creative make-up team with equally-talented designers, musicians, models and actors. A series of designs were submitted and assembled. Once agreed upon, all the images shown in the deck were done in an intensive two-week production period. Photographer Richard Lohr donated his time, along with all the other artists, when it came to capturing these unique paintings. Long hours of body painting preceded each portrait. For each image, the use of both body contour and makeup is novel.
