Cluny Tatting by Dagmar Pezzuto.

The wonderful work of Dagmar Pezzuto is featured in the July/August 2015 issue of PIECEWORK magazine. This issue has a four page spread showing a square tatted mat. it is made of individual squares so you may make the mat as long as needed for your table. A simple alternating ring and chain repeat edges the final piece. Dagmar has shared several of her cluny tatting designs with us here on BellaOnline.com.

The cluny tatting method might be challenging to some tatters. Wrapping the thread on one hand to create a loom and doing the weaving through the loom requires concentration. However, there are now available looms of many materials which can aid in the making of the cluny leaf.

The white thread which is the chain thread was used to form the loom on the left hand.
The red thread comes from the shuttle/needle and is used to weave the cluny leaf.

Dagmar's traditional style tatting with the cluny leaf is marvelous but she has a flair for design, too. This is her version of a butterfly.

And her tatted jewelry is inspiring, too.

Here is an excellent starter pattern to practice the tatted cluny leaf. It is also by Dagmar. It features a row of cluny leaf tallies which alternate with split rings. The entire edging may be tatted in one pass without cutting the thread.
