September 14 2006 Human Rights Newsletter

Greetings and Salutations, fellow humans!

My name is Lisbeth Cheever-Gessaman, and I have just taken the helm as Editor for Human Rights at Bella Online. I am excited to be joining the Bella team and look forward to getting a chance to get to know each of you.

A few goals as regards your editor and this forum:

• To personally respond to each and every email;

• To never fear hearty debate, opposing ideas or alternative views

• To devote this site to education, exposing injustice and championing individual and social freedoms through education and personal empowerment.

If you know of an issue that you feel deserves attention, email me at humanrights@bellaonline.com to be considered as a feature. Comments, criticisms and kudos are also welcomed.

In the coming months, I plan to host a drive to sponsor a sister from Women for Women International, feature a few book and DVD reviews and include some hot links to Human Rights, Activism, Education and Information. I'll also use this newsletter to include current events, marches, protests and online volunteer opportunities - things each of us can do to make a difference in the world.

Having said, here is the latest article from the Human Rights site at BellaOnline.com:

• Want to make a difference from the comfort of your bed? Come wear a blue hat for Darfur (and sign a petition to the UN, while your at it).

• Dog the Bounty Hunter Arrested

Duane Chapman, beloved by millions as Dog the Bounty Hunter, was arrested this morning at 6 AM by the US Marshalls with an order to extradite he and his sons to Mexico. Charges stem from a 2003 incident of Dogs’ capture of Max Factor heir, Andrew Lustert, who had fled the country after posting bail for numerous rape charges for which he was later convicted.

For more of the story and Dogs’ wife, Barb Chapman’s reaction see this link:

And then come post your reactions and/or support at the forums here:

Speaking of the forums ... what an opportune time to come around and introduce yourself, and/or post your own links to injustices, topics of interest and the like.

Activism being no place for shyness, after all.. ;)

And of course, visit me at www.bellaonline.com/site/humanrights for even more updated features and content about Human Rights.

Until next time - may peace be your motto, wisdom your guide and strength the sword of your will.
