May 12 2007 Large & Lovely Newsletter

Hello Large and Lovelies,

I hope you are having a great weekend. From my desk I see sun shining in the living room. Through the open windows I can hear the birds singing up a storm. It brings to mind a word from Walt Disney's Bambi. "Twitterpated." All the birds and squirrels definitely are. Maybe a few people are too. Hope you have time in your busy schedule to fit in a little reading.

Have a good one!

* Igigi Plus Size Dresses *

Yuliya Zeltzer, a Ukrainian-born, self taught designer in her 30s is the motivation behind Igigi (pronounced ee zhee zhee) plus size fashions. She moved to San Francisco, California in 1991. At that time she was sewing clothing for her friends and family. As word of mouth grew so did her small business. Most of her clients were plus size, including her mother so it seemed natural for her to specialize. Following the need, by 2000, she launched to sell her designs to a greater audience. Igigi "manufactures and distributes apparel and accessories for fashion-loving women sizes 14+". You won't find a frumpy item in their product line of mostly dresses (including bridal) with some tops, pants and accessories. Rumor has it they may be carrying jeans soon.

It wasn't too long ago when the twenty-one year old curvy beauty was ferociously battling the bulge to stay in a career she loved. A career that demanded she conform to its rail thin industry standards. Something we all bare witness to every time we walk past the magazine stands.

Fat Quote:

"Virginity has been, and continues to be, a matter of life and death around the world, very much including within the first world. Virginity is the butt of innumerable jokes, the subject of timeless art, the center of spiritual mysteries, a locus of teenage angst, a popular genre for pornography, and the nucleus around which one of the world's most powerful governments has created unprecedented policy. For all these reasons, and many more, I am honored to be at the helm for this maiden voyage into a fascinating untouched history." ~Hanne Blank, Virgin: The Untouched History
