Conservation can mean many things. Some people believe in conserving our natural resources or in preventing harm to wildlife. Other individuals work hard to restore and preserve our history and works of art. Here are some of the most important areas in conservation from both land and sea.

Rat Island is Rat Free
Since 1780 an island in Alaska named Rat Island had been overrun by rats since the sinking of a Japanese whale ship. In the 229 years that the rats had lived on the Aleutian island they had a negative impact on the environment there. Now they are gone.

Texting Elephants
Texting technology is helping animal conservation in Kenya. The Kenya Wildlife Service is making efforts to save Kimani, an African elephant, whose species is on the “near threatened” portion of the Red List.

Threatened Species Red List
Conservation efforts are being discussed in Barcelona Spain where the IUCN World Conservation Congress is meeting. Nature seems to be a top priority as they focus on protecting nature in the belief that the outcome of the existence of animal and plant life directly reflects on the life of man.
