Castles and Cathedrals

Maybe they were fortresses, historical residences, and called a Burg, Festung, Palais, Palast, Schloss or Dom in German, but here you will find them under CASTLES and CATHEDRALS etc.

Cologne Cathedral star
It took over 600 years to complete. Construction was begun while Cologne was part of the Holy Roman Empire, but not finished until 1880, in a newly United Germany with Wilhelm I as its first Emperor. But Cologne Cathedral is stunning and one of the country´s most important monuments.

Hohenschwangau Castle, Schloss Hohenschwangau star
"Hohenschwangau Castle" in Bavaria had its beginnings in the 12th century as the Fortress Schwanstein. The childhood home of King Ludwig II who built the "Neuschwanstein" fantasy castle, it is filled with history, treasures and art but has the atmosphere of a home.
