Shuttle and Ball Thread Edgings Free Tatting Patterns

Edgings in this section which are suitable for the beginner or near beginner have been marked with a star. The free tatting patterns here will be great for edging clothing and household linen.

Basket Edge star[offsite link]
This pattern has been re-written from a 1916 magazine. It is not difficult and well worth the work.

Flower Edging star[offsite link]
Here is a very pretty flower edging made from numerous small motifs joined together. Not for those who hate finishing ends though!

Medallion and Edge Set star[offsite link]
This is another vintage pattern from Cherie Wheelerīs site.

Pizzetto Ecru star[offsite link]
This pretty edging would be very suitable for table ware or bedlinen.

Scallop Edging star[offsite link]
Here is a lovely scalloped edging by Iris Neibach.

Tatted Edging star[offsite link]
This one is a reproduction of another early pattern and therefore the tatting is very simple to do. Itīs just the traditional ring and chain but with lots of picots on the chains - very pretty.

Tatting with Rick Rack star[offsite link]
In the early part of the 20th century a lot of patterns were written using various kinds of braid. Sadly most are unavailable now, but it is still possible to obtain rick rack braid and these patterns make very good use of it.

Three Leaf Clover star[offsite link]
Here is another variation of the three leaf clover edging, using a very pretty variegated thread.

Victorian Edging star[offsite link]
This edging by Eileen Stafford has a very traditional look and feel and again is suitable for the beginner.

Vintage Scallop Edge star[offsite link]
Here is another gorgeous edging from Cherie Wheelerīs site of vintage patterns.

Vintage Scallop Insertion star[offsite link]
This design would make a lovely bookmark and is not difficult.

Vintage Wide Edge star[offsite link]
This is an edging for a large circular mat which would look lovely on a dark wood surface. Itīs in three rows so would take some time to make.
