Pow Wow and Pink Poodle Echinaceas

Pow Wow and Pink Poodle Echinaceas
Some of the truly superior varieties of Echinacea that can be found are the Pow Wow series and the Pink Poodle echinaceas.

Pink Poodle Echinacea

Recommended for zones four through eight, Pink Poodle Echinacea does best in zones four through eight. The vigorous, well branched plants has strong stems. The deep green foliage is healthy.

Pink Poodle Echinacea stems make a great cut flower. These stems are medium in length. The plants are 2 ¼ to 2¾ feet in height with a slightly smaller spread. The plant prefers full sun to part sun.

This plant begins flowering in early July and continues for several months. The fluffy, fully double, long lasting blooms resemble a cactus dahlia blossom. These are four inches wide. The petals are bright pink to pinkish-rose and droop with age. The cones are yellow-red.

Pow Wow Echinaceas

The Pow Wow echinaceas are outstanding plants that are suitable for zones three through ten. Requiring little care, these are drought tolerant, dense well branched plants. The branching occurs at the base to create compact plants that need no dead heading.

Very neat looking, these high quality, neat looking plants are genetically shorter than most purple coneflowers. These are 1¾ to two feet in height with slightly over a one foot spread. Space them at least 1½ feet apart in the garden.

Very free flowering—particularly for seed grown plants, the Pow Wow plants bear blooms that are sure to attract bees and butterflies. These will bloom the first year if the seeds are started early indoors. They bloom around twenty weeks or so from planting. These varieties bloom earlier than most other echinaceas, and continue flowering throughout the summer.

The large, long lasting blooms, three to four inches wide are resistant to fading. Pow Wow White Echinacea has pure white petals that are overlapping. The cones are golden yellow to yellow. This variety has more blooms per plant than any other Echinacea during the first and second years.

Pow Wow Wild Berry was the first variety in this series to be released. It was named an All America Selections winner for its landscape performance and for the unusual flower color. This was also chosen as the top performer at the University of Georgia/Athens trial gardens.

Wild Berry adapts well to heat, humidity, poor soils, drought, and cold. It can be slightly shorter than Pow Wow White Echinacea. The very floriferous plants are much more free flowering than most seed grown echinaceas. The three to four inch wide blooms retain their color well.

The petals of Pow Wow Wild Berry Echinacea are so vivid they’re almost iridescent. They range from fuchsia-rose to deep rose-purple, magenta, dark pink, or neon rose. The cones are deep rose to dark red.
