It’s a quiet night in the small town where Steve and Jane live until a meteor falling from the sky grabs their attention. As they try to locate where it’s fallen, the pair come across an old man who made the mistake of touching the remnants within, only to have the blob-like creature attach itself to him. Taking the old man to get help, they soon realize the creature is growing and consuming everyone in its path. Will they be able to warn the town before it’s too late? Here are a few movie mistakes to look for in 1958’s “The Blob”.

· Tony Gressette and his friends have surrounded Steve’s car after he and Jane have left Dr. Hallen’s office. The teens are telling Steve he’s now the new champion after having raced past them earlier in the evening. The far view shows Tony is leaning against the car with his hands crossed on top of the windshield on the driver’s side. It cuts to a close-up of Tony and his right hand is down.

· Steve’s father walks into the police station and he appears disheveled, with only the bottom button on his blazer clasped. Dave walks over to talk to him, and his appearance is neater, with both buttons now hooked.

· Steve and Jane are talking after sneaking out of their homes. In the close-up, when Jane says, “you want to tell yourself it didn’t happen”, Steve’s back is toward her. It cuts to an angle behind Jane and Steve is now turned with his right side facing her. Steve comments, “how do you get people to protect themselves…”, and he’s now facing her and there appears to be cigarette smoke behind his left shoulder that wasn’t there before.

· Steve and Jane are trapped in his father’s store, being chased by the “blob”. They run toward the freezer and there is a pipe set against the wall, behind the freezer door. Steve picks is up and throws it. A little later, Steve and Jane venture out of the freezer, and the pipe is back in its original position, setting against the wall, behind the door.

· Steve’s parents are awakened by the air raid siren. His father jumps out of bed and is scrambling to get dressed. Someone off screen can be heard saying, “Fire”, just as the fire siren starts to sound, and Mr. Andrews repeats the word.

“The Blob” (1958) stars Steve McQueen, Aneta Corsaut, Earl Rowe, Olin Howland, Stephen Chase and John Benson, It runs 86 minutes and is Not Rated.
