I highly recommend the 2021 Twilley Seed catalog for home gardeners because it has so many varieties of interest. Professional growers, such as farmers and those growing for local markets, receive a discount.

This catalog is an antidote to the dreary winter days ahead. It features many varieties of each vegetable. Twilley specializes in sweet corn with eight pages of corn varieties. There are also eight pages of peppers and six pages of pumpkin varieties along with four pages of melons. The varieties are listed alphabetically.

Some of my favorite varieties are the tiny Witch Stick pepper, the Orange Blaze sweet pepper, and the colorful Crayon Colors Mix radishes.

The catalog provides gardeners with basic how-to information for each plant type with in-depth descriptions and details on each variety, such as plant size and days to harvest. In addition, gardeners will find information on which varieties are disease resistant.

There are also very helpful charts comparing vegetable varieties. For example, the hot pepper chart has symbols indicating the pepper’s shape, size, and color. Seed varieties that are available as untreated seeds are highlighted.

Symbols also identify which varieties are suitable for containers, bedding plants, greenhouses, and cut flowers.

Gardeners can hardly go wrong by choosing those vegetables in Twilley’s Professional Seeds series. These reliable, top performing varieties include Celebrity tomato, Obsession sweet corn, and Athena cantaloupe.

The new varieties listed in the front of the catalog include Pea Little Purple, which is being re-introduced. This space saving variety is only 1½ to two feet or so in height. It deserves a place in flower beds and borders due to the gorgeous purple blossoms.

Twilley also has a special collection of vegetables called the Harvest Collection, which are perfect for home gardeners. These varieties from Sakata Seed are especially high yielding, flavorful, reliable, and nutritious. The collection includes Peppermint Swiss Chard and Lilliput cantaloupe. There is also a cute little mini pumpkin called Toad pumpkin with a bumpy, warty skin. These only weigh a couple ounces and are ready to harvest in 85 days.

Although it isn’t necessarily new, I highly recommend the Pea Parsley, which is a cut and come again variety of pea plant with tiny, tasty leaves borne in bunches. Gardeners can begin harvesting this green in less than a month, while the pea pods are ready for harvest in two months.

There are just so many tempting choices when it comes to ornamental peppers from Twilley. These are listed under flowers rather than with the peppers.

Gardeners will find this catalog features many kinds of flowers, especially varieties recommended for cut flowers. Some of the new flower varieties for 2021 include a new Wave petunia—Carmine Velour, and Pro Cut White Lite sunflower. There are wonderful new color additions to the Benarys Giant Dahlia Blue Point Zinnia series, which make great cut flowers. The list includes Purple, Golden Yellow, Lime, Salmon Rose, and Wine zinnias.

Other new flowers include the newer ornamental Queen Anne’s lace plants called Dara Dark Red Shades, which makes a good cut flower. These are a wonderful pollinator plant for they attract butterflies and bees. Twilley also sells many kinds of ornamental corns, sorghum, and millets for cut flowers.
