Some Bib Bang Coreopsis Varieties
The Big Bang series of coreopsis are spectacular plants. These are top performing varieties in the landscape. Most of these tend to be fairy tall. The plants were bred by Darrell Probst. He kept crossing and recrossing until he created the series.

Suitable for zones five through nine, these plants prefer full sun. The leaves remain healthy throughout the season despite the heat. For the most part, these tend to bloom non-stop from July through September.

The Big Bang series plants are quite hardy and reliable. The series includes the following varieties.

Cosmic Evolution Big Bang Coreopsis

This variety does well in zones four through eight. This prefers full sun. The plant is a little over 1 ½ feet in height with a spread of a foot to 1 ½ foot.

Cosmic Evolution coreopsis blooms from June through October. These flowers are quite large, three inches across. The creamy white blooms can develop tinges of magenta during cool weather.

Cosmic Eye Coreopsis

Cosmic Eye coreopsis has narrow foliage that forms a neat clump. The bicolored blooms are rich yellow with contrasting color in a deep burgundy red.

Big Bang Galaxy Coreopsis

This variety is hardy to zone five. Flowering is from June through October. The semi-double blossoms are yellow.

Big Bang Mercury Rising Coreopsis

This variety does well in zones five through nine. Resistant to mildew, this was introduced in 2013. Unlike most other varieties with red blossoms, this one survives winters in zone five. It prefers full sun.

It was rated very highly in the Mt. Cuba plant trials. The plant does well in zones five through nine. This is a popular variety. The narrow leaves are apple green.

The fast growing plant is 1½ feet tall and a width of 1 ½ to two feet.

Flowering is from June through October. The velvety blossoms are non-fading and up to two inches across. The non-fading flowers feature are red with a frilled center featuring a vivid gold red eye.

Big Bang Polaris Coreopsis

This variety is suited to zones five through nine. The plants are around a foot and a half feet tall or just a slightly bit taller sometimes. A spacing of 1 ½ feet is suggested.

Held on sturdy stems, the pure white blooms feature button-like centers that are yellow. Flowering begins in late spring.
